Ambassador to Tanzania Alfonso E. Lenhardt received an award from Vice Chancellor of the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) Prof. Idris Ahmada Rai in recognition of the contribution made by the American people to the development of the University and the education sector in general in Zanzibar . In accepting the award Ambassador Lenhardt reaffirmed U.S.' continued commitment as a strong partner in the Development of Zanzibar and Tanzania as a whole, noting a vital role of SUZA in that development. Since 2006, U.S Embassy has been partnering with SUZA in implementing various activities including hosting an American Corner where SUZA students have free access to internet access and academic resources. SUZA is also a partner university for the Boren Fellowship, a U.S. government program that brings over 20 American students each year to Zanzibar to study Swahili.
