The imprisonment of 11 high ranking politicians is a major stumbling block in talks that have been ongoing in Addis Ababa since last week. Rebels have repeatedly called for their release, while President Kiir has insisted they will not be set free without a legal process. Rebecca Nyandeng Garang is visting Uganda and met president Yoweri Museveni in Rwakitura yesterday. She told Museveni that the release of the detainees will speed the talks and end the war. She said former deputy President Riek Machar would have no excuse to continue fighting if Kiir released his colleagues.
