WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF RAILA ODINGA IN KENYA POLITICS !

Adressing journalists at the party headquarters on Wednesday, ODM Secretary General Anyang’ Nyong’o said that this will help address issues of gender and regional balance after elections.“It is therefore that in keeping with this, that the party organs met recently and made such recommendations,” he said.He revealed that this will include a proposal to increase the party officials and to restructure some of its secretariats.Amid claims by some delegates of existence of a preferred list, Nyong’o reiterated that all candidates were competing on a levelled ground as per Party Leader Raila Odinga’s assurance.

Let the Party Leader be taken for what he has said both in the party and in public – that all candidates are preferred by the party,” he stressed.“Opinion of an individual does not represent that of the party. I am the party spokesperson.”Nyong’o also warned those candidates expressing their views purporting to be those of the party to desist or else be barred from the election. He specifically singled a candidate whom he did not name as having done so on a national television. He asked him to apologise.“Whoever said that knows himself,” he said after reporters insisted that he name the candidate.ODM will hold its National Delegates Convention on February 28 and March 1 where party members are expected to elect new party national office bearers. The event will be held at the Kasarani Sports Gymnasium where all the 26 positions from that of the Party Leader downwards will be contested.During the two-day event, some 3,200 delegates will deliberate on various matters of importance to the party and thereafter take part in the most important exercise which is the election of the national office bearers.Odinga faces an exceptional task of ensuring that the party gets a strong leadership that represents the face of Kenya. With 91 MPs, 11 Senators and 16 Governors, spread in all parts of the country, there are those who feel the national leadership of the party should be evenly distributed across the country.
