TANZANIA is going through economical and political transfomation new challenge from both sides of the union 66% of People of Zanzibar are not satisfied with the curent structure of the union .Opposition party in Zanzibar CUF are demanding more indipendence from Mainland and there is pressure to have refrendum to ask Zanzibari through ballot box if they want to stay with curent union or to negotiate new terms of the Union , or just leave this union peacefully. Zanzibar is demanding more power for there President have more say on dealing with international relation.
Recently curent goverment of National unity has taken more role on sefuguard Zanzibar sovernity , the pressure of the opposition forced ruling party to create seperate flag few yrs ago , but now Opposition in Zanzibar have jump through new Constituional review to demand more changes and to return the voice of the People of Zanzibar to be the final dicision maker through ballot box, Zanzibar now have its own flag , constitution , Parliament , President and it consitution.
There are some groups in Zanzibar like UAMSHO which many retired CCM politicians are behind this group who are not satisfied with the curent structure of the union , Uamsho popularity has alarmed the Ruling party CCM in maniland to pressure the Zanzibar goverment to stop this group preaching anti union sentiment which have let the CCM to lose support from promidently Muslim in this Island , Muslim Preachers are now threatened to be barned to speak in any public places and Many Leaders of the UAMSHO group have been locked in prisons and are in court for un found reason.
The Islands are strugling it past revolution opression it has been yrs since 1964 Revolution. Justice is the area many Zanzibari Diapsora and academics see court system need reform. Many are not happy with slow pace of reform from the curent goverment. This disapointment of reform , un employment and the improve of life standards have taken both parties in Zanzibar by suprize to see Muslim preacher group UMASHO surge in polularity on its sentiment on Union. Preachera are telling people politicians have failed the country ,Un imployemnt is huge and Goverement un able to adress un employeyment and blaming the union as the reason have cause the poor life standards.
Many Zanzibari want to be part of the new East African Body, East African community and many feel Zanzibar need full member ship like Rwanda and other states to reap off the benefit of full membership not to be under the umbrella of Tanzania membership. Many feel more Zanzibari should have bigger role on Internatinal arena this are two countries united as equal partners but this structure have failed to show equal representation , there are less then 10 Ambassadors from Zanzibar which represent Tanzania over seas. In North America in twenty yrs three Embassies in New York , Washington DC and Ottawa Canada have never see fair representation of having Ambassador who come from Zanzibar .
There is big voice In Mainland Tanzania the Opposition party Chadema is gaining ground and is demanding devolution political system like Kenya and three governemnet structure. How ever many feel CCM made mistake in 1995 when youth politicion from Mbeya Njelu Kasaka demand the return of the Tanganyika Governemnt but old guard was able to silence G55 abouth three government system and eveutualy Chadema took this and made part of there Centre peace of contituinal changes now CCM is facing pressure from both sides of the union .Many ask if this son of Bagamoyo from MSato village will; be able to let this constitional review precess and have New constituion with out having Checkolovakia of East Africa.
