Kenyan election IT chief found dead with one of his arms cut off

Chris Musando was Deputy Director of ICT for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission - Kenya’s equivalent of the Electoral Commission

He had been missing since Friday.Police found Musando’s grey Land Rover Discovery abandoned behind a shopping mall and later found his body with his arm severed.

Polls open in Kenya’s general election in eight days.According to the Kenya Star, Musando was one of few people in the country who knew the whereabouts of the computer servers which power the country’s election system. He had previously complained to the police after receiving death threats and was last seen driving in his Land Rover with an unidentified female.Musando was promoted to acting head of ICT after Director James Muhati was suspended over accusations he had failed to co-operate with government agencies who were ‘auditing’ the organisation’s systems. In the hours before Musando's body was found, Moses Kuria, an MP and member of President Uhuru Kenyatta's National Alliance, posted a picture on Facebook of Musando's Land Rover.

In the attached post, he claimed the missing man was simply “enjoying sweet time with a woman”.He also attacked opposition leader Raila Odinga, apparently accusing him of concocting a story about Musando being aware of attempts to “rig” the election.
