TANZANIA PRIME MINISTER TO BE IMPEACHED BY PARLIAMENT

The main opposition parties under Ukawa Speaking during a press conference held in Dar es Salaam CUF chairman Professor Ibrahim Lipumba, NCCR Mageuzi chairman Mr James Mbatia and Chadema Secretary General Dr Wilbroad Slaa urged the parliament to take the government into accountable by impeaching Prime Minister for failing to fully implement its recommendations.

According to Prof Lipumba, who read Ukawa statement, the president embarrassed the nation for defending Pan Africa Power Solution (PAP) owner Mr Harbinder Singh Sethi and VIP Engineering and Markerting owner Mr James Rugemalira who conspired with public officials to illegally withdraw money from the escrow account at Bank of Tanzania (BOT).“How can president commend the job done by the parliament with regard to the scandal while at the same time claiming that the money belongs to IPTL?” posed Prof Lipumba.Ukawa also criticized the President for failing to take action against Energy and Minerals Minister Professor Sospeter Muhongo as recommended by the parliament.According to Chadema Secretry General Slaa parties, which form Ukawa, educate wananchi about the Tegeta Escrow Account scandal so as to enable wananchi to take measure against the government. The parties will also hold countrywide demonstrations if the government fail to implement parliament recommendations.Dr Slaa also called for review of Public Leaders Code of Ethics Act so to enable to public to access public leaders property declaration statement.
