ZAMBIANS ARE CRITICAL OF NEW PRESIDENT IMAGE

Pesident Edgar Lungu of Zambia is under pressure for appointing a Lozi as vice-president.Lungu himself has admitted that ‘people ‘ are questioning him why he appointed Inonge Wina as vice-president when people in Western province did not vote for the PF.
Lungu was speaking at State House on Tuesday when he met traditional leaders.Lungu said he should be allowed to choose people on merit. Lungu’s admission that some people are against the appointment of Wina as vice- president gives a glimpse of the power struggle that is emerging in PF.Senior PF members from the Northern parts of the country are accusing Lungu of betrayal. One senior PF members disclosed that it was always understood that Lungu would appoint a Bemba as his vice-president to thank the people of the North for giving him power and also to give back power where it belongs should anything happen

.What does Edgar Lungu’s pimp suit tell us about him? One could be kind and say he was attending a wedding and it was okay for him to be a little playful with his suit. But this a guy who wants to lead a nation of 15 million people ! We , they people expect him to conver the right image for our nation.Frankly , the white suit and hat combo makes him look ridiculous , unsophisticated and not serious. I can hear people say why not look at the content of his character rather than the colour of his suit? I agree! but Lungu has history of blemishes on his character regarding his law firm and alleged love of vodka, surely his image builders and PR people should be making sure he is dressed soberly( if you pardon the pan) not like a pimp in a 70s movie. if you think presidential dressing/image is not important , let me refer you to our past presidents.

KK finessed him image, he was immaculate in his dark safari suits, craveat and trademark white handkerchief . Tall , dark and handsome , you could not mistake KK for anything else but a leader.

Chiluba’s sharp business suits, silk ties and matching pocket handkerchiefs were meant to portray a pro – business Presindent , an almost evangelical pastoral look to match his Christian belief. He looked and sounded like he knew what he was talking about, of course it is debatable wether he really knew what he was on about!

Mwanawasa was a lawyer who dressed like a lawyer, competent , sober , nothing flashy. In my view Zambian’s best president, his understated look and manner was just what we needed after Chiluba’s high heels and flash suits.

Banda dressed his age, Sata mixed it up , he would wear his African print shirts when addressing rallies , a nice touch to match his common man populist , message, but he could also carry a business suit with style and aplomb.

With current Presidetial candidates, HH is winning in the presidential image stakes, You see him in khaki shirts when addressing poor people. He understands how to appear like an ordinary guy you could have a beer with. But you also see him with a custom shirt and power red tie attending a largely middle class evangelical church. He does look like a President in waiting.
